Adding and Managing Courses

GZ Learn courses function like a "class" within a module and let you break lengthy learning materials into smaller, more digestible sections.

Note: Every course must contain at least one chapter, which must contain at least one activity. While you must have at least one course, chapter, and activity in your module, you may create as many as you need.

In this article, we will explain:

ACCESS THE LEARNING MANAGEMENT SYSTEM MODULE ADMINISTRATION PAGE


Courses can be created and managed through the Learning Management System Modules Administration section of your portal. To access the Learning Management System Modules Administration page, click the drop-down menu in the top left-hand corner of the page and select the Portal Administration link (Fig. 1).

From the Portal Administration page, click the Learning Management System Module Administration card (Fig. 2).

ADD A COURSE TO A MODULE


To add a course to a module, navigate to the  Learning Management System Module Administration page and click on the Edit Mode toggle (Fig. 3) in the top righthand corner of the page. Click on the card of the preferred module to access the module's content editor and add a course. Click the Add Course card (Fig. 4) to access the Create Course page.

From the Create Course page (Fig. 5), you can enter a:

  • Course Title: The course title appears on the course card. 
    • 120 characters max.
  • Course Subtitle: The course subtitle appears on the course card below the course title when the user rolls over the card. 
    • 90 characters max.
  • Course Description: The course description appears above the course's list of chapters. 
    • Adding a description is optional. The description can include rich text, which allows for bulleted or numbered lists (just click on the appropriate icon above the text bar). You may also include bold, italic, underlined or linked text in the description.

If preferred, you can allow  Chapter Images and select if you want to Automatically generate a chapter and activity. Click the Save button. Once saved, the Edit Course page will display, allowing you to add a course image and edit the course details. 

  • Course Image: Upload an image or use the icon with a solid or gradient background color.
    • To use an icon with a solid or gradient background color, click the Use Icon/Gradient button. Select the background type (solid color or gradient), your color(s) and your icon. Click the Save button.
    • To use an image click the Upload Image button, then either drag and drop the image file into the space provided, or click the Add A File button and select the desired image.
    • Preferred files types include JPEG and PNG. 
    • We recommend a minimum resolution of 526 pixels by 180 pixels. 
    • Upon uploading an image in the editor you will be able to crop the image to your liking with our built-in cropper. Position your image so that it appears correctly in the provided space. When finished, click the OK button.
Note: Course images are optional and can be enabled by selecting the Course Images checkbox on the Module Editor page. Visit Adding and Managing Modules for more information.

EDIT A COURSE


If you are returning to a previously-created course to edit it, click the  Edit Mode toggle in the top righthand corner of the page, then select the pencil icon (Fig. 5) in the upper righthand corner of the course you would like to edit to access the Edit Course page.

From the Edit Course page (Fig. 6), you can manage and modify the Course ImageCourse TitleCourse SubtitleCourse Description, and allow for Chapter Images

PUBLISH OR UNPUBLISH A COURSE


Unpublish A Course: When a course is first created, it is published. To unpublish a course, navigate to the Edit Course page and click the Unpublish button (Fig. 7) in the lower righthand corner of the page.

Publish A Course: To publish a course, navigate to the Edit Course page and click the Publish button (Fig. 8) in the lower righthand corner of the page.

DELETE A COURSE


To delete a course, navigate to the Edit Course page and click the Delete button (Fig. 9) in the lower right-hand corner of the page. Confirm deletion by clicking on the Yes, Delete button.

REORDER COURSES


To reorder courses within a module, navigate to the list of courses and click on the  Edit Mode toggle (Fig. 3) in the top right-hand corner of the page. Click the Reorder Courses toggle (Fig. 10) in the top lefthand corner of the page. Drag and drop courses into your preferred order. Turn off the Reorder Courses toggle once you have finished reordering the courses.
